So what is The Strategic Business Partner Program?

The Strategic Business Partner Program is a 12-week online training programme that will show you step-by-step how to build a strategic business partnership with your Executive, craft your role, future proof your career and not get left behind as the Assistant role continues to evolve.

Build an effective and dynamic strategic partnership with your Executive

The Strategic Business Partner Program consists of 12 core training modules. Whether you want to start building the relationship with your Executive or take your current role to new heights, The Strategic Business Partner Program can help. This 12-week online programme provides the crucial elements you need to succeed as a high-level Assistant.

Every effective partnership between an Assistant and their Executive starts with a strong foundation.

In this module, we will take an in-depth look at the basics you need in the Assistant role before thinking about how to move into a strategic position. We will look at how Assistants can elevate themselves in the role by creating a new way of thinking and a new way of working that is strategic, business-focused and proactive. We will cover:

  • Course introduction and what to expect from The Strategic Business Partner Program

  • Trust, loyalty, honesty and respect: An introduction to strategic partnerships
  • Are you ready to start building your partnership? Ten questions to ask yourself and your Executive
  • Worksheet: Accelerating trust

By the end of module one, you will have a clear idea of what it means to be a strategic partner and a rock-solid plan in place to get started. Module one starts on Monday 8th March 2021.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach for Assistants who want to work as a strategic business partner.

In this module, we will look at how Assistants can craft their role so that they are working proactively rather than reactively. We will create an effective job description that is aligned to the strategic needs of the business, and the mindset shift Assistants need to take to be more intentional in their career. The module includes:

  • How to move away from ‘tick-box’ administrative tasks
  • Creating a job description that works for your role
  • Crafting your role: Your 90 Day Plan
  • Creating SMART goals and objectives that align with your organisation’s strategy

  • Worksheet: What motivates you and your Executive?

At the end of this module, you’ll know exactly what your role should look like, how to align your job description to the work you do, creating goals for your career and working with a purpose. Module two starts on Monday 15th March 2021.

For Assistants to move into a strategic partnership role, the working relationship with their Executive must be solid with both sides of the partnership aware of what they need to bring to the table.

For Assistants to thrive as strategic partners, the partnership must be reciprocal and dynamic. In this module, we will look at the supervisory support you need to become a strategic business partner and the part your Executive needs to play in making the partnership successful. You will learn:

  • Creating a team for two and an ‘easy intrusion’
  • Encouraging your Executive to delegate
  • Understanding the rationale behind our Executive’s decisions.

  • Worksheet: Managing your 1-2-1 meetings as a space to show your competency in the role

At the end of this module, you’ll know how to position your role as a strategic partner and deliver a service that will make you stand out as a strategic partner with the buy-in from your Executive. Module three starts on Monday 22nd March 2021.

Communication between an Assistant and their Executive is everything! Assistants have to communicate effectively and strategically so that they get the most out of every interaction.

In this module, you will come to understand that continuously communicating with your Executive, and an open and honest dialogue is key to the success of your partnership. You will learn how to make your communications effective and impactful and have influence with your Executive and colleagues.

At the end of this module, you will master the tools needed to communicate effectively with your Executive and approach conversations with purpose. Module four starts on Monday 29th March 2021.

At the centre of the Assistant role is the working relationship they have with their Executive. The relationship has to be effective and intentional for the Assistant to thrive in the role and for the Executive to drive the organisation forward.

In this module, we will explore what it means to work within the inner circle. That is the team that operates around your Executive and influences their thoughts and decision making. We will share techniques that will boost your confidence so that you see yourself as part of the inner circle and an equal to those working in that position. The module will cover:

  • Exploring the concept of the inner circle
  • Executive Committees – How they work
  • Creating your own inner circle and building influence
  • Exploring the relationship between manager and Assistant

At the end of this module, you’ll understand how to operate within the inner circle, where your strengths lie, how to create influence and build effective relationships. Module five starts on Monday 5th April 2021.
