Thanks for inviting me to run a session at the Summit Nicky – I’m looking forward to sharing some hugely beneficial learning with attendees and contributing to another successful event for Practically Perfect PA.

For those of you who don’t know me I’d like to introduce myself as the Director of Your Excellency Limited, an executive training and coaching organisation headquartered in the UK.

I am a former EA and worked for 12 years in both the UK and the US before setting up Your Excellency Limited with my husband and co-Director, Malcolm.  We have just celebrated 10 years in business and are immensely proud of the portfolio of learning and development opportunities we provide.  Our “Menu of Learning” downloadable from our website showcases our expertise.  We have a team of Associate Trainers who share our belief that fun learning makes for memorable learning.

As a former PA/EA myself I personally specialise in delivering training and coaching to administrative professionals across the world.  With first-hand experience of the EA role I understand the diversity of the profession and the delights and inevitable challenges you face in your busy working lives. I recently wrote a blog post for The IAM which gives you more information about my journey, and learning, from EA to specialist EA trainer.

I love writing articles and blog posts and contribute to admin professional resources such as Executive Secretary Magazine.  I wrote my book “A-Z Pearls of Wisdom for Executive PAs” a couple of years ago.  I’m delighted with the feedback I regularly receive from readers and this year I won the PA Assist Member’s Voice Award for Best Book for PAs for the second year running.  Two trophies are proudly displayed in our office!

Our office is based in the garden of our home – in the beautiful Bedfordshire countryside in a purpose built wooden building.  It amuses me that on “admin days” (when I’m not visiting clients or delivering training and presentations), the only commuter traffic along the garden path is our pet chicken Bluebell!   We are quite close to London so many of our “open” training courses are based there.  As an advocate of travel as the optimum educator, of course I’m happy to go anywhere in the world to support admin professionals.   I always make sure I tag on a day before or after any training delivery or speaking at conferences and summits – so I can learn about the country, the people and the culture.   I grew up in Hong Kong and have lived and worked in France and the US.   I’ve just returned from a 2 week holiday in the Bornean Rainforest which was just amazing.  My husband and I are celebrated 25 years of marriage this year and have pulled together a list of 25 places we’d like to visit in the world……I’m a great “list writer” so am looking forward to checking off these places on this exciting list!

I believe the EA/PA is a really exciting role.  You are pivotal to the success of your organisation – you are in a privileged position whereby you see, hear and experience what’s going on in your organisations from the “shop floor” to the Board room table.  As such, you need to be able to communicate effectively and assertively, to prioritise your workload successfully and maintain a measure of calm and professionalism at all times – quite a big ask I know!

With changing technology and globalisation the demands on your time and energy can be challenging and it’s really important to invest in your own CPD (continuous professional development) to make sure you have the right skills and know-how to excel in what you do.

We have recently added IQ/IAM accredited qualifications to our portfolio of learning and development opportunities. The IAM are one of the oldest professional bodies for business and admin managers in the UK and I have a great working relationship with them as a preferred training provider.

We offer a Level 3 and a Level 4 qualification.

The Level 3 Award in Professional PA & Administration Skills is achieved by attending 5 one day face to face training sessions and completing written assignments following each training course.  There is a choice of 12 courses which cover all aspects of the PA role from Finance through to Marketing, Project Management and Influencing Skills.    We can deliver the training one-to-one too if you prefer a more intimate training environment or if there’s a team of you in your organisation we can deliver this inhouse.    Some learners prefer a group setting as this promotes interesting discussion and best practice sharing (plus lots of laughter which we believe is important during training). We always cap the number of attendees at our training sessions to 12 so that you get lots of interaction with the trainer.

The next Level 3 training course is taking place on 3rd May in London – “Principles of NLP to enhance communication” will share the principles of NLP and help you enhance your communication.  There are a few places still available.

The Level 4 Certificate in Office & Administration Management is achieved by attending 3 two day face to face training sessions and completing written assignments following each training course.  There are a choice of 4 courses including Management Skills and Commercial & Business Awareness.  We make sure management and leadership theories are introduced to you in user friendly terms and discuss the application of these theories into your workplaces.  For any training course you attend it’s important to identify what you have learned and how you will apply it to benefit you, your Executive and your organisation.

The next Level 4 training course will take place in June 2018 in London with final details to be confirmed.

For both qualifications we recommend you complete your study in a year – however we pride ourselves on our flexibility and we do have a few students who are currently “fasttracking” in order to achieve a recognised qualification sooner. During your period of study you have student membership of The IAM and can access their training articles and be invited to webinars and events to support your development.

At each training session I share a “useful resources” document with clients (Practically Perfect PA is included Nicky!).  The contacts and resources available to you are immense wherever you are in the world and there is a real sense of community within the PA Profession.  It’s refreshing to network and learn from others in the same profession and we emphasise that every training session we provide is also an opportunity to do just that. Several years ago I wrote an article for Executive Secretary Magazine on networking that still receives high acclaim today.
