What is Screencast-O-Matic?
Screencast-O-Matic is a brilliant web based tool that allows users to record and create videos of whatever is happening on their screen.
What does it do?
So it is a screen and webcam recorder that can record on-screen activity for short tutorials, visual presentations, and communicate while you demonstrate! The free features include:
- 15 minute recordings
- screen and webcam recording
- Instant publication to YouTube
- Ability to save the recording as a video file.
The pro version has a load of other features including editing tools and this is only $15 per year. There are also plenty of tutorials on the website to get you started.
How does it benefit assistants?
If you have ever had to show colleagues how to use the same piece of software over and over again (hello expenses system!) this is the tool for you. Simply record a short tutorial on your computer and send this to said colleague…. and then send again when they come over to your desk asking for ANOTHER explanation.
Why is it Practically Perfect PA’s tech of the week?
I think this is a great piece of kit for assistants. If you can knock up a few tutorials on the software that you have to spend a lot of time demonstrating it will not only decrease your workload it will show you to be pretty proactive. For new member of staff your little tutorials will also be really helpful.
