Edinburgh is one of my favourite cities, but I am often more there for work than play. In September this year, it was one of those rare occasions where I had the chance to enjoy the city with friends for a special celebration. It was also a perfect opportunity to scope out suitable locations for future stays.
When choosing somewhere to stay when away on business (or pleasure), you want comfort, convenience, and somewhere where you can relax when you have some rare down time. So after staying in hotel room after hotel room, it was a nice change to stay somewhere that offered all this, but in a more homely surrounding.
The Knight Residence, serviced apartments situated on Lauriston Street, Edinburgh are a stones throw from the castle, and in a great central location. On the surface, they tick all the usual boxes that you’d find at a good hotel; parking, cleanliness, comfy beds, pleasing decor… but the thing that really impressed me were the little extra touches that make it more homely.
Arriving earlier than planned, we didn’t expect the apartment to be ready. But we received a warm greeting, offered directions if we needed them, and the services of some rather welcome Knight Residence umbrellas – these must come in handy for many visitors! With our luggage safely stored we took to the city to find some lunch.
Not having stayed in a serviced apaprtment, my expectations were surpassed when we returned and checked in. The two bedroom apartment was very spacious. The en suite and seperate bathroom were both exceptionally clean, and accompanied with generous fluffy towels and toileteries. As expected all the mod cons; iron, hair dryer, wifi were all provided, and the kitchen was really well equipped – perhaps more so than mine at home!
So, to the extra touches, the things that make you feel like you’ve walked into your own house or flat…
There was a full complement of breakfast items provided – tea, coffee, juice, milk, cereals, bread, butter and jams – no need to go shopping. A huge stack of DVDs to peruse. An entertainment pack for 4 year old Noah who was staying with us. A range of restaurant and takeaway menus for nearby eateries. It was all there, ready for us to help make our stay welcoming and special.
I would recommend the Knight Residence for both business and leisure as it caters well for both. It’s a welcome change from a hotel, with helpful and friendly staff on hand should you need them. A serviced apartment wouldn’t have previously been on my search list when looking for accommodation for business travel, but it will be now.
