The Bonham, a 4 star boutique hotel, is situated in the West-end of Edinburgh. It is a lovely small (or should I say ‘wee’), quiet hotel and it has a very relaxed atmosphere. The reception area leads on to the restaurant area and to a small bar space – The Consulting Room which serves cocktails and afternoon tea. I arrived on a wet and windy Sunday morning and was immediately whisked up to my room.

I must say I was delighted to get into the room early and even more delighted when I saw the size of the bed and the big bathtub. In no particular order I took a bath, called up for a big fluffy bathrobe and got back into bed for a few hours. After a lovely nap I took in the rest of the room. The room, like the hotel, was small but perfectly formed. There was a lovely sitting area and work space. The view from the bay window was spectacular. Edinburgh is such a beautiful city and the room was certainly designed to make the most of the view. The big window also let in lots of natural daylight which can be lacking in boutique hotels.

The location of the hotel, surrounded by beautiful gardens and Georgian terraces, is pretty perfect with the lovely Stockbridge area near by and a short walk into the city centre. Haymarket train station is only 0.5 miles away and an easy walk for anyone arriving or departing by train.

As is typical for me on a Sunday I didn’t have much planned except catching up with the Sunday papers and eating as much food as possible. I was in a great spot to partake in both activities. With the newspapers thoroughly read I made my way down to the restaurant for dinner.

Myself and my partner were the first to arrive for dinner so as you can imagine the service was excellent! The food was lovely and fresh. I particularly enjoyed the pumpkin & ricotta tortellini for starter and the Scrabster cod for main.

Breakfast the following morning was a little disappointing as we arrived quite late and most of the buffet had been packed away. The staff were difficult to find when we wanted to order tea and coffee and enquiry about the food. This is a vert small criticism in an otherwise delightful stay. I would recommend the Bonham, it is a lovely boutique hotel and the view from the bedrooms really are stunning.
