A few years I organised afternoon tea at Threadneedles Hotel for my department’s Christmas party. It was just a small, fairly conservative group so afternoon tea in a beautiful setting was the perfect choice. We sat in the lobby area of the hotel, which might not sound very grand but you haven’t seen the Threadneedles Hotel lobby! It is stunning. I always wondered if the rest of the hotel lived up to its first impression. The answer is a resounding yes.

With so many other hotels in the City of London there is a lot of competition but, as you would expect for a financial district, there are very few hotels with real character. This is where Threadneedles blows its competition away. It is set in a beautiful Victorian banking hall dating back to 1856 and retains many of its original features including a stained glass dome above the lobby.

During the week the lobby is busy hosting informal meetings for the local business folk but on the weekend (I arrived late Friday afternoon) the City and the hotel are tranquil locations to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet.

The hotel’s bedrooms are certainly spacious enough to relax, which again is somewhat unusual for the City of London and an old Victorian hotel. I arrived having worked at an event all of that day and I was absolutely shattered. The huge king size bed, luxurious sheets, soft bath robe and room service were all calling to me but first I jumped in the bath tub to wash away my hard day’s work.

For room service I ordered fish and chips (a British staple) and a large glass of wine. Both were fantastic and just what I needed. The food and the view of the TV from the middle of the bed really did make my evening! I can just imagine how happy a tired Executive would be relaxing in a Threadneedles Hotel room after a busy day in meetings.

After a great night sleep I woke with much more energy than when I arrived at the hotel. The shower helped a little more and the complementary breakfast set me up for the day.

Why book Threadneedles Hotel for your boss? If your boss is travelling on business to the City of London you can’t go wrong with Threadneedles. It is a beautiful hotel right in the middle of the city, the lobby is a great place for meetings as are the restaurant and bar areas. If you have clients visiting your office in London again Threadneedles is a great choice and if your clients are also bringing their family they will be well looked after as the service is excellent.
