The Fulton Inn, Charleston

The Fulton Inn, Charleston

While sitting in the back of a taxi owned by one of the friendliest drivers I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet I surveyed my surroundings and came to the conclusion that King Street is quite possibly one of the greatest streets on earth. What an experience! The restaurants were packed, the bars were swinging; unfortunately the shops were closed but as glamorous as the residents strolling along the sidewalk. I was informed by my driver that my hotel – the Fulton Lane Inn was perfectly positioned on King Street and within walking distance of all that Charleston has to offer. The hotel is tucked away in a quiet part of King Street so guests can escape from the excitement outside and step into a beautifully calm atmosphere.

The famous southern hospitality is every bit as charming as you would imagine and it is certainly instilled in the reception staff at the Fulton. Wyatt, made me feel instantly relaxed although I must admit that the complimentary sherry helped too! I had a cathedral suite which was beautifully presented with a huge 4 poster bed and a whirlpool tub made for two. The bedroom and indeed the entire hotel is full of character. I particularly liked the shutters that open from the bathroom onto the bedroom which added to the already romantic feel of the room.

I made my way back onto King Street having received a restaurant recommendation from the concierge. Virginia’s was a great choice, the food was excellent and as it was restaurant week in Charleston I got a fantastic discount. I made my way back to the hotel via a few bars and then had a perfect night sleep. The bed was so big I had to climb into it!

The following morning  I was coaxed out of bed by the bright Charleston sunshine streaming through the room and the promise of a good breakfast, but not before I  took full advantage of the wonderful whirlpool for a good half an hour soak! The breakfast, served in the Kings Courtyard Inn (just next door) was basic but did the job. The hotel does delivery breakfast to your room, which is a really nice touch. In fact, the hotel also offers a complimentary wine and cheese reception every evening. They certainly do know how to create a perfectly relaxed atmosphere.

Why book the Fulton Lane Inn for your boss? It is a world away from the standard business hotels they are used to. It is in a fantastic location, just a stones throw away from the hustle and bustle of Kings Street but tucked away so guests do not experience any noise. The hotel is incredibly romantic so suggest to your manager that they take their partner with them!
