Walking into the lobby of Le Méridien Perimeter Atlanta on a cold Saturday afternoon is a rather pleasant experience. The atmosphere is similar to a private club in a cool part of town with lots of nicely dressed people enjoying the bar and happily chatting with one another. The walls are lined with shelves packed full of brightly coloured books, which on closer inspection are modern classics. The bar area is cosy and the artwork is perfectly placed. Usually I don’t like hotels that use the lobby area as the social hub but Le Méridien has made the space work to its advantage.
My room was as welcoming as the lobby area with a huge bed and perfectly appointed bathroom. I really appreciate hotels that get the balance between luxury and practicality right. Le Méridien certainly has. There was lots of natural light in the room, a great desk to work from and complimentary wi-fi. There was also a full-length mirror (always a plus) and lots of accessible plug points.
Le Méridien is situated in a thriving business district and it is clear that they have thought about their business clients while designing the hotel. It has a boutique feel, is very contemporary but has all of the mod cons you come to appreciate when travelling on business.
The restaurant was booked for a private event – showing how popular the space and the food is – so that evening I had dinner in the lobby area. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience with great service from the bar staff. The food was exceptional; all of the flavours worked really well together and the chef should be congratulated for creating a wonderful menu. The chocolate cake was a particular highlight! The wine menu had a great selection and the cocktails were lovely – I would recommend the espresso martini myself! I also really enjoyed the selection of music playing throughout the hotel and listening to some of my favourite songs throughout dinner. Someone has obviously put a lot of thought into the music and it does surprisingly make a difference.
After a great night sleep I made my way down to the fitness centre to work off the previous night’s excesses (what can I say – the food was worth it!). I was really impressed with the gym equipment and the overall set up of the fitness centre. Again the space has been designed really well rather than as a second thought, which can be the case with so many hotel gyms.
Exploring the surrounding areas it is evident that Le Méridien is perfectly positioned. It is right next to the Perimeter Mall with lots of restaurants and bars within walking distance (not that anyone walks!) Within the hotel there is also a spa, outdoor pool, club lounge and lots of meeting space.
Why book Le Méridien for your boss? If your manager is conducting business in the Dunwoody or Buckhead area of Atlanta I would highly recommend Le Méridien for their stay. It is a great hotel and really does get the balance right between boutique luxury and business travel practicalities.
