There really couldn’t be a more convenient hotel in which to stay in Dundee. The DoubleTree sits on the seam of the outskirts of the city on the main roundabout off the A90 that sends traffic into or above the city of Dundee. The Hotel is exceptionally convenient for Dundee’s Ninewells Medical Complex and the burgeoning technology park – the birthplace of “Grand Theft Auto”.

Despite its slightly outlying location with a compact city like Dundee the hotel is still only 15mins taxi from the train station and only 10mins from the increasingly international focused airport on the banks of the River Tay.

The hotel is among the most beautiful in the city. Built around an old country house the greater hotel complex lovingly wraps around this 19th century building. A very popular venue for wedding at weekends the DoubleTree is flexible enough to provide several great spaces for events. Some of the smaller rooms are stunning! With the purpose built event suite large enough for 150 cabaret style the venue is in use most of the week for most of the year. This continual traffic gives the hotel a constant bustling atmosphere but with enough nooks to find a space to chill.

After travelling the 100 miles or so from Glasgow we arrived on a typically busy Saturday evening. A wedding celebration was in full swing as we sneaked past the bar to find our room. Despite being close to the celebrations our room was quiet and very comfortable. The rooms are those lovely four star hotel rooms that feel like five stars. Very comfy bathrobes, a sofa you wish you could take home, a huge bed and a separate shower and massive bath.

Owing to our inability to shake off our tiredness until 11am we only popped into the breakfast area but it was well worth seeing. Breakfast takes place in the conservatory conservatory-style, AA Rosette restaurant, The Maze. Hot Scottish fair and a cold healthy breakfast was on offer to those with less sleepy heads.

If you make the most of your visit you can enjoy the fitness centre, sauna, steam room and the large pool. Hungover post wedding celebrations parents and too lively kids were doing that as we left. The kids enjoying it more than the parents.

Dundee is a thriving city and sometime during 2016 will welcome the new V&A museum as part of a £1B development of the cities waterfront. If your executive doesn’t yet travel to Dundee they may in the future so keep the DoubleTree on your must book list.
