A few weeks ago I spoke at the Conference and Hospitality show in Leeds. For a regional show I was impressed with the variety of exhibitors and the number of attendees. The show wasn’t packed but there were enough people milling around to make a good atmosphere.

I was speaking in the PA Hub zone. The training areas were a little disconcerting for the speakers I must say! The set up was similar to a ‘silent disco’ which meant that the audience all had headsets on so that they could hear the speaker and not the noise of the conference.  It was all a bit odd to be honest!

The content for the PA Hub training area was, however, very good, thanks to Marion Lawrence. Lucy Brazier from Executive Secretary Magazine updated the audience on the International Year of the Secretary and Assistant– they are doing great things so do check out their LinkedIn Group! And then it was my turn… eekkk! I’m still very much getting comfortable with speaking in front of people but I have improved with lots and lots of practice! Here are my slides from the presentation.

During the presentation I did mention that I have a travel itinerary template for assistants to use. I also have a list of really great apps for business travel.

Following my session I had a good wander around the exhibition and lunched with some brilliant assistants that I had met via Twitter but never face to face. I do love having the opportunity to get out and about and meet other assistants. The Conference and Hospitality Show had some great spaces for attendees to network.

Following lunch the PA Hub had a few more really interesting sessions. Including ‘What goes on in Vegas…’ – event management tips from Holly Moore and Gill Quirke’s successful networking tips. The PA Hub certainly had put together a thoughtful programme that was helpful for assistants and each speaker gave really good solid career advice.

I would definitely recommend The Conference and Hospitality Show for assistants based in and around Leeds, especially if the PA Hub curate the content again next year.
