Hi everyone, how are you guys doing? It has been a while since I last wrote a personal blog so I thought I would send you an update on what has been happening over the last ten months. Firstly I should give a big shout out to the wonderful William who has been running things on the website during my maternity leave.
As some of you may or may not know I did indeed have a little boy back in March. He is a delight and I am head over heels in love with him. However… Oh my Goodness! Nothing and I mean absolutely nothing prepared me for how tough motherhood was going to be! I feel like I have had a lobotomy!
I was incredibly lucky with my pregnancy, no morning sickness, the first 6 months spent in beautiful Barcelona in the sunshine and the last 3 nesting in Edinburgh being looked after by the wonderful NHS. My labour when it finally arrived was pretty straightforward (as much as a small human being coming out of you can be anyway!) and Brodie was perfectly healthy. Good stuff! I was organised, I had lists and I thought I’d be back up and running in no time – I love routine, my baby will love routine… I love sleep, my baby will love sleep. Ha! Who was I kidding!? I was so incredibly tired I could barely lift my eyelids let alone my laptop!
It has taken a long time to get back into the swing of things. Life has completely and utterly changed But I’m slowly slowly very very slowly getting some sort of normality back. Since my maternity leave finished in October I have spent the last few months reminding myself how WordPress works, scheduling blogs, tweets and general social media updates and looking at the year ahead. Over Christmas I redesigned the website and the feedback has been wonderful. We have loads of new features to add over the next few months and lots of great content. We also have our second Assist Conference coming up in February. So far 50 assistants have booked on and there are still places available if you would like to come along too.
In my personal life I have moved back to Barcelona (let’s face it I was never going to be able to get through another year of Scottish weather!) and I am very much looking forward to settling my wee family here. Practically Perfect PA Towers is back up and running and I have a feeling 2016 will be a fantastic year.
Anyhow, I better go as my son is currently crawling around my feet and trying desperately to reach the mouse cable which despite having hundreds of toys is his favourite thing to play with. My last and final thought is this – hats off to all the assistants / working mum’s out there. I never knew how tough this gig was until I had first hand experience. You are all doing an amazing job!
