The Marriott in Edinburgh is in a perfect location for those flying into and out of the city. It is 10 minutes from the airport, which is great for an early departure, and 20 minutes from the city centre using public transport. There is a very conveniently located bus stop directly outside the hotel which takes you into Princes Street for £2.50. The hotel itself is huge, on arrival the reception staff are there to greet you and guide you around the hotel. The lobby area has a fantastic bar area for drinks and snacks. I waited in the bar for my keys and was able to grab a drink, log on to the WiFi and check my emails all in a comfortable and cozy part of the hotel. It didn’t hurt that a local rugby team were also relaxing in the bar!
The hotel itself is a little dated but it is clean and comfortable. the serve is excellent and there is plenty of amenities to keep you occupied – including a spa, fitness centre, two restaurants, outside patio, Starbucks Coffee and lots of conference and meeting space for those organising events in the city.
Once I had my keys I was whisked up to the room and found a fantastic selection of Scottish products waiting for me to sample! It is so easy to stay in a hotel such as the Marriott and not have a clue where in the world you are. In the Marriott Edinburgh there were small touches that indicated you were in fact in Scotland. The room was very comfortable, with a big bed, seating area, work space and large bathroom which included a bath.
After a fantastic night sleep, I made my way down to breakfast which was complimentary with the room. The traditional Scottish breakfast buffet was exactly what I needed. The selection was excellent and the food was fresh and tasty (which is not always the case with a breakfast buffet!) The service was excellent. In the fact the staff in general were all very good.
Overall I enjoyed my stay at The Marriott. It is nice to go into a hotel and know what to expect – I find this is always the case with the Marriott brand. The Marriott Edinburgh was no exception. The service was good, the amenities were nice to have, the food was a good standard and the location was perfect.
